Salt's Salad Days

I'll start with saying i'm very creeped out at the parts of a pig that the Romans ate. Where would they even get the idea to eat those things? Especially froma a pig. Gross. However, I'm all for seasoning food. I'm not a big fan of meat when it's not seasoned.

I think it's nice that the Roman's made salt affordable for everyone, and clever how they raised the prices to recieve money for the army. That's sort of like gas prices today. I guarentee they don't need to be as high as they should be, so somewhere along the line someone is getting a lot of money. Gas, like salt, is also more expensive the further away you live from a supplier. Also, most towns around here were oil boom towns, and most roman cities were founded where salt could be found. Wow, salt is like gasoline/oil... who would have thought?

Maybe im just easily ammused.. but i think that's so awesome!

I deffinetly think the romans ate too much salt in their diets. Salt on salad, salty wine, ans salty hams. However it says they only consumed 25 grams a day. How is this possible?

I would fit in with the Plebians becuase i love olives. I approve of eating olives before every meal. I actually just ate black olives today on my salad. I would probably not eat the main dish of fish however. I hate fish, a lot. I especially hate tuna, therefore i would be shunned in Sicily.

If i'm gonna adopt Asian babies i better start eating rice and salt everyday. But you know, i'm a huge fan of rice. So i think i could live like that. But i refuse to eat that nasty fish crap over my fruits and veggies. I wonder if they ever got sick from eating that nasty fish paste?

Bromine means stench. That's pretty cool. So i guess bromine is purple? It took a lot of effort to get the purple dye. It must have been expensive. No wonder why the royal wore it.
