This was a long one, so it gets its separate blog.
I found out about the story of how Chacko and Margaret met. He really loved her a lot. Thats why its so sad that their marriage did not last very long at all. She never really loved him and he never saw it. She was the only person he had ever loved, which makes this whole situation more sad.
I finally found out how Sophie Mol died. She drowned in the river. I bet Estha feels terrible. He was the one that decided that they needed to run away. However, i doubt it was all his fault. There werent too many details on how Sophie Mol drowned.
So Velutha's dad came over the river and told Mammachi about Velutha and Ammu's secret realtionship at night. Baby Kochamma freaked out and went to the police station and told a story about how Velutha molested Ammu. I'm very angry at baby Kochamma for that. She didn't do that in the best interests of anyone, just herself. SHe didnt want her family looked at badly becuase Ammu was interacting with an untouchable. I wonder what will happen to Velutha.
THe family then locks Ammu in her bedroom and she goes crazy and tells the twins she doesnt love them and that they are burdens. This prompts them to run away and SOphie Mol drowns. So is everything Ammu's fault?
Poor Margaret. SHe came to INdia to forget about the loss of Joe and ended up losing SOphie Mol too. Now she has nothing. I feel so bad for her.
I also feel bad because Sophie Mol was just about to make friends with her cousins and then she drowned. She might have turned out to be a decent person... but we'll never know.

Ha ha, way to adapt the blog to the long chapter. Nice job.
One way love affairs such as Chako's can seem sad or even pathetic I guess. Still, you can't help but feel bad for the poor guy?
Yeah, Sophie drowns but as you point out, we really are not told as to how this all goes down? They were running away, but hadn't really planned it out very much.
Baby Kochamma is one of the villains in this story as far as I'm concerned. She is sooo petty, and childish. She really reveals her faults in this chapter.
During Amu's 'freak-out' session, you really feel like these two twins have gone through enough don't you? Especially when she yells that they are burdens. Then as you say, a death results because of this. Poor kids.
Another good observation about how Sophie was just about to grow closer to her cousins, then dies before it can happen. The book is depressing, no doubt.
Great comments and blogging!
